Why Girona? Because the city and it's surrounding areas are some of the most romantic, gorgeous, unspoilt places in Europe. The ancient Catalan city Girona, with its warren of winding streets, perched on a hillside in northern Catalonia is all we could ask for. The roads are quiet, the landscapes are to die for and the city is alive with culture and art.
Cycling in Girona is unlike cycling anywhere else in the world. It’s not just the weather, roads and architecture. It’s the fact you feel you’re wandering into the home of the professional peloton. It's a place where you can spend your days cycling alongside rugged pink rocks with the teal-coloured Mediterranean glimmering below, framed by grand, arabesquing pines on the Costa Brava or, on near deserted roads in gloriously wild parts and tastefully manicured in others. The region is also foodie’s paradise, not to mention superb, locally produced wines!
Leaving the world behind a picture postcard setting awaits you, settled in boutique luxury accommodation in the Catalan countryside, creating a glorious backdrop for morning or evening yoga after fantastic day on our bikes. Arriving home to fresh local produce prepared lovingly by our own in house cook, and who could forget the wine!
Setting off on our bikes to cycle the quiet back roads and discover places steeped in history and nature, you will absorb the sights, scents, tastes and atmosphere of Girona at handle bar level. When you’re not getting behind the handlebars, or on your yoga mat, you’ll be in retreat-mode. And our main priority is your enjoyment, meaning you’re always in control of your level of participation.
Our cycling and yoga retreat in Girona offers those precious quiet moments that fill us with awe and gratitude. On the sweeping landscapes of northern Catalonia as the sun rises, the day begins, and we feel that sense of awe, appreciation, or gratitude. It’s as though everything is right with the world. And for that moment while we are on two wheels, we feel a sense of fun and happiness.
Worried that the cycling and/or yoga might be too difficult? The cycling is moderate but is designed to challenge you and the yoga is suitable for all levels, even the stiffest body! No yoga experience is necessary, just a willingness to try something new. For more information on the cycling, see the cycling section below.
Whatever you seek on your Catalan adventure you will go home fitter, happier and healther with a sense of vitality and a restored approach to life.
Magnificent, extraordinary, breathtaking - words cannot fully describe what you will receive from your experience in Girona!
Our home while we are in Girona is a unique eco estate which was was built for Catalan landscape painter Francesc d’Assís Casademont “Le Vieux”, a friend and contemporary of Salvador Dalí’s.
The estate is run by cyclists, for cyclists and main villa rests near the top of a gentle slope, and the holm oak and pine forest has been cut away in places to reveal views over the trees towards the Gavarres hills, and nearby olive and cypress groves. There are many different areas both interior and exterior in which to spread out and water is a recurring feature on the estate, with ponds linked by a stream, with fish and other aquatic life such as frogs and salamanders. There are several sheltered, enclosed areas in the forest for quality “me” time. There is also an extensive vegetable garden, and many fruit trees offering peaches, mandarins, avocados, oranges, loquats, apricots and figs, as well as a canopy of grape vines. Sustainability is at the heart of the estate, and all energy is from renewable sources on site.
The covered bike porch has plenty of dry, safe bike storage, as well as maintenance racks, tools, and bike washing facilities. On top of this, the former Casademont Art Gallery on the estate has been transformed into a fully equipped tranquil yoga studio, and the property also boast the all important pool for a post ride splash!
Located a few hundred metres south of the medieval village of Púbol, site of the Gala and Salvador Dali castle museum, in the Baix Empordà region of Girona province, it's the ideal base for us to explore all that Girona and it's surrounds offers by bike, in true Soulfit Adventures style.

Riding in Girona is physically demanding and can be challenging. Typically we ride between 60 to 80 kms, sometimes more, with elevation each day. The retreat is not a training camp and we are focused on you enjoying a stimulating yet relaxed time. The cycling itineraries have been designed for people with a reasonable level of cycling fitness, and anyone with a good base level of cycling fitness and experience should be able to complete all of the cycling. Our itineraries are designed to show the best that the Girona region has to offer and the rides are graded by the level of difficulty which relates mainly to the distance and terrain. However, it is also largely influenced by an individual’s cycling experience and level of fitness.
If you are not a regular cyclist and you would like to participate in the cycling, that's awesome! We really want you to make the most of your holiday and to do this, we would recommend that you do some structured training on a road bike, on the road at least 3 months prior to the retreat. Road e-bikes available on request for those after a little extra assistance and to enable all fitness levels to enjoy riding together.
Non-cycling/yoga friends and spouses
Non-cycling/yoga participants are always welcome and all activities are voluntary. Girona is the perfect destination for non-cycling partners to enjoy whilst you’re out on your ride. There are a plethora of cafes and restaurants, cobbled streets, fabulous shops and museums all within easy reach. Not to mention the pool on the estate which one could laze around for a few hours, and the Costa Brava with it's glorious coast line is close by. There is enough to do on most of our trips to keep non-yogis and riders happy, and we are only too happy help guests not participating in the organised activities with optional excursions at their own expense.
"I had a wonderful time. The holiday exceeded my expectations in every way. I will be back!"
